BAGGAGE
Baggage weight is limited to 50 pounds per guest in total including carry-on. Out camp baggage will be tagged with a colored ribbon supplied when you arrive in Winnipeg to avoid the possibility of mixing it up with luggage for Treeline Lodge.

CLOTHING
Weather in the sub-arctic can at times be fickle and unpredictable. Suggested items of clothing include a heavy shirt, warm socks, a hat or cap, gloves, long underwear, a warm jacket and insulated boots. A quality rain suit is a must. To reduce the glare of the sun on the water, polarized sunglasses are suggested.

RODS, REELS AND LINE

  • Lake Trout - a bait casting reel on a heavy action 6 ft. trolling rod with a good fighting butt works well with 20 - 30lb test.
  • Northern Pike & Lake Trout - a second outfit for casting - medium action 6' rod with medium size, bait casting or spinning reel with 17- 20 lb test.
  • Arctic Grayling - an ultra light spinning outfit with 4-6 pound line.

LURES

  • Lake Trout - Eppinger Husky (300 series) or Husky Junior (700 series) Daredevle spoons or any spoons of equal size. Color schemes should include five of diamonds, chartreuse / red spots and black and white. Remember to be creative. Any larger lure that is single hooked can be used such as Giant creature jigs, J- plugs, T-60 flat fish, 3-4oz. Jigs, large spinners etc.
  • Northern Pike - Johnson silver minnows (3/4 - 1oz.). and other weedless spoons. Jig and Pigs, Moss Boss, Mice or Frog bass lures with single hooks for heavy weed cover work well. Spinner baits and surface lures allow you to see them strike.
  • Arctic Grayling - #0, #1 and #2 Mepps and Panther Martin spinners are a must. Blue Fox also make an excellent spinner in #2. 1/16 oz. Mister Twister Jigs also work well. It can be difficult to locate tackle used at Nueltin in some areas. We have an excellent selection of lures available at Nueltin for reasonable prices.

FLY FISHING
Northern Pike - 8-10 wt. Flyrods with weight forward floating flyline or Pike / Muskie rocket taper (Cortland). Sinking flylines in the 3-5 in. / sec. range, Pike leaders with a nylon coated steel tippet. Flies: Dahlberg Divers, Polar Bear Deceivers, Clouser Minnows (red/white).
Lake Trout - 8-10 wt. Flyrods with weight forward floating and sinking flylines. A flyline with a sink rate of approx. 3-5 in/sec. is a basic choice. Lake Trout leaders, or a 10 ft tapered leader with a 25-30 lb mono tippet. Flies: 4-6 in streamers imitating baitfish. Tandom Grey Ghost, Black Ghost, Nine-Three, and a Dahlberg Mullock-Sucker.
Arctic Grayling - 4-5 wt. Flyrods with weight forward or double taper flylines (floating). 8ft.-10ft. Tapered leaders with 3X-6X tippets. Flies: imitations of small aquatic insects, ie. Muddler Minnow, Black Gnat, Adams, Light Cahil, G.R. Hare's Ear Nymph, in sizes 10-16. Note: For Northern Pike & Lake Trout it is advisable to have approx. 150-200 yds of Dacron flyline backing attached to your flylines.

PACKING TIPS
Keep rods broke down and rod cases short as possible. Pack tip ends with foam rubber. This will prevent damage when transferring from one plane to the next. One large duffel bag holding all your gear and clothing will make loading and unloading the aircraft much easier. Small tackle boxes can be packed right inside the duffel bag and be protected by your clothing.
* Extra long rod cases are difficult to load in aircraft and in some extreme cases they can not be loaded. Please keep rods as short as possible.

TACKLE FOR SALE
We have a good selection of basic tackle available for sale at reasonable prices.

CUSTOMS
Please bring three pieces of identification. You are allowed to bring 40 oz. of liquor and either 50 cigars or 200 cigarettes with you into Canada duty free.

FISH LOCATORS
All the boats in our fleet are equipped with state of the art fish locators. Fish locators are also available at the out camps.

BOATS
At all four camps, boats are equipped with comfortable swivel seats, cushions, life jackets, landing nets and paddles.

PERSONAL
Camera and film, sun screen, lip balm, insect repellent and tobacco. You may also wish to bring a thermos for hot beverages to take with you out on the lake.

LIQUOR AND BEER
We keep a good stock of Canadian beer, pop and liquor for sale at Treeline Lodge. Beer price is $3.00 U.S. per can. Liquor prices range from $24.00 for Canadian whiskey to over $35.00 U.S. for some brands of Scotch. Wine is available on request. Anyone wanting a specific brand of liquor or wine should order it 30 days in advance. At our out camps, Narrows and Windy keep a good supply of Canadian beer and soda pop along with a limited supply of liquor. Again, we require special orders to be placed 30 days in advance due to our remote location.

CATCH AND RELEASE
You have shown wisdom in selecting Canada's Original Catch and Release Lake. In order for the program to work, the released fish must survive. We will provide you with single barbless hooks in three sizes for your Lake Trout and Northern Pike fishing. For Arctic Grayling, treble hooks must be de-barbed and two hooks cut off. Our repeat guests know that these measures will not detract from your angling enjoyment, but they contribute greatly to the survival rate of the fish. There will be no exception to this rule, and we thank you for your cooperation.

SATELLITE PHONE
During our operating season we will have our satellite telephone connected. Air time for incoming and outgoing calls is very expensive but our clients find it essential to keep in touch with home and office. Air time can be charged to your bill and paid at the end of your week with us.
